In emergency situations, for example in the event of loss or theft of your passport with the need to promptly return to Italy, the Consular Office of the Consulate General can issue a temporary travel document (E.T.D. – Emergency Travel Document). The E.T.D. is valid only for the return trip to Italy or to the country of habitual residence (only in exceptional cases can it be issued for a different destination), the validity of which is limited to the time strictly necessary to reach the final destination of the trip.
