The Consul General

UGO BONI

Born in Lecco (Italy) on 23 September 1975. He graduated in Economics at Luigi Bocconi University in Milan in 2000. In 2001, he attended a Master in International Affairs at ISPI in Milan.

He complied with national military service in 2002 at CEMISS (Center of Military Strategic Studies).

He started the diplomatic career in 2003 at the Department of Development Cooperation in the Technical Central Unit and subsequently in the Secretariat of the Director General.

From 2008 to 2012, he served as First Secretary and Deputy Head of Mission at the Italian Embassy in Astana (Kazakhstan).

In 2012, he moved to the Embassy in Minsk (Belarus) in the same capacity as First Secretary and Deputy Head of Mission. In 2014 he was promoted Counsellor.

Returning to Rome in 2016, he was assigned to the Policy Planning Unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

In 2018 he was appointed Deputy Head of Mission to the Embassy of Italy in Bangkok (Thailand).

In 2020 he was awarded the title of Knight of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Italy.

Since 23 August 2022 he is the Consul General of Italy in Lagos.

He speaks English, French, Russian and Spanish.

He is married to Gulzhanat and has two children, Tomiris and Timur.
